Professional Carpet Cleaning South London

A quality carpet can look good as new for fifteen years or more – but not if it’s soiled. Whatever the cause (trodden-in dirt from the bottom of shoes and feet, spilt food and drink, mess caused by pets or children, decorating accidents or worse) a gradual build-up of things that shouldn’t have come into contact with your carpet will spoil its appearance, feel and smell.

We provide specialist carpet cleaning services in Central and South London to help to keep the carpets in your residential or commercial property looking and smelling their best for as long as possible.

For Your Business or Home

We have a range of powerful, professional machines to clean large carpeted areas in company offices and other commercial and industrial facilities, gyms and health clubs, restaurants, schools and colleges, care homes, hotels etc. We do also provide the same services for smaller business premises, and we’re always happy to quote for domestic and residential carpet cleaning.

Our Specialist Carpet Care Services

  • Maintenance Cleaning (suitable for lightly soiled carpets);
  • Heavy Duty & Deep Cleaning (for neglected, badly-stained or even water-damaged carpets);
  • Spot & Stain Removal (red wine and food, decorating and other accidents);
  • Odour Neutralisation (cigarette smoke, urine, pet smells etc); and
  • Sanitising & Disinfecting to BS EN Standards.

Maintenance Cleaning

We can carry out quick, effective and non-intrusive cleaning for carpets that are in reasonably good condition with Powder Compound Cleaning (more information below about this).

Heavy Duty / Deep Cleaning

This is where our top of the range machinery and more than two decades’ professional experience (not just as a commercial cleaning contractor, but also as a supplier of both machines and detergents to the trade) really come into play. Our recommended method for this is Hot Water Extraction Cleaning, which also allows us to carry out additional (and sometimes essential) carpet care services.

Spot & Stain Removal (together with any nasty smells)

Tough staining, soiling and odours can all be tackled with our range of specialist carpet cleaning liquids. Whatever your problem, we offer treatments in different fragrances (or fragrance-free, if you prefer). Common problems we’re called out to solve include:

  • everyday stains like tea/coffee, red wine, food;
  • commercial food dyes and food preparation stains (in restaurants, pubs etc);
  • lingering smells from urine (human or animal), smoke, and mould or mildew;
  • ‘nightmare’ stains including motor oil, tar, gloss paint and chewing gum;
  • potentially infectious and dangerous soiling like vomit, faeces or blood.

Disinfection & Sanitising

Where hygiene is of the utmost importance we can treat carpets using professional, Woolsafe-approved disinfecting detergents that are rated to a number of different BS & EN standards against threats to public health including Coronavirus, Ebola, Ecoli, Hepatitis B & C, HIV, Listeria, Measles, MRSA, Nororovirus and Salmonella (as well as many more).

Carpet Cleaning Methods

Hot Water Extraction

We recommend that this type of deep cleaning is carried out at least once every year in a family home. In commercial premises with ‘high traffic’ areas (office corridors, reception areas, lobbies etc) carpets might need to be cleaned on a quarterly basis.

We use carefully-selected specialist detergents and industrial-grade hot water extraction machines to thoroughly clean your carpets, leaving them brighter, fresher and more hygienic. Proper extraction cleaning also helps to raise the fibres of the carpet to help to keep it feeling good underfoot.

How it works:

  1. Any really dirty areas will get a pre-spray, and specific problems or stains will be targeted with a specific detergent;
  2. These problem areas will also be agitated with a variable speed hand-held power brush;
  3. The cleaning solution (a combination of water and the detergent(s) required for the job) will be heated to the right temperature;
  4. Where possible, we’ll use our ‘Power Wand’ for extraction cleaning (see our FAQs below for more detail);
  5. Depending on your exact needs, we might need to apply a rinse / conditioner to finish.

You can read a full description of the different options and stages in hot water extraction cleaning here.

Powder Compound

If your carpet only has light soiling and you need it ready to walk on immediately after cleaning, this could work for you. It’s done as follows:

  1. the powder is applied to the carpet and worked in by machine;
  2. the powder (now containing any dirt it has trapped) is then vacuumed out;
  3. the carpet is brushed by hand.

Some of our business customers have their carpets powder compound cleaned between extraction cleans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer a carpet shampooing service?

Yes, if it’s requested: we have the machines required, and a variety of different treatments. However we actually don’t recommend shampooing, because we’ve yet to come across a shampoo that doesn’t leave a slightly sticky residue behind, which means the carpet gets dirty again faster. If you want a ‘quick fix’ carpet clean rather than a more intensive one, we’d recommend dry powder compound instead. Find out more about the different ways to clean carpets, together with their pros and cons.

Can you steam clean my carpet?

No, and you probably don’t actually want that. Steam from boiling water can cause many carpets to shrink and fade. Many people confuse professional hot water extraction with steam cleaning, because it does involve spraying a very warm solution onto the carpet with some force. However the ‘steam’ you’ll see around our motorised cleaning attachment (see below for more information) is only hot water vapour at 60 degrees rather than 100 degrees.

Do you clean natural or delicate fibres and fabrics?

Yes. We have a range of excellent treatments specifically formulated for use on delicate fibres including wool, silk, velvet and velour. Here’s a detailed look at the detergents we use, and why we use them.

Do I need to clear the room before you arrive?

An empty room is preferable.

We will apply protection to stop the legs / feet of furniture from staining damp carpet, so an item that can (a) be easily moved by one person, and (b) has sufficient clearance from the floor can be left if there is no room elsewhere in the property to move it to. This includes small tables and chairs, and even medium-sized items with working wheels or casters.

Heavy or large pieces of furniture that do not have feet (and therefore no airflow underneath them) are going to interfere with drying, and should be removed before we arrive.

If in doubt, please do ask when making your booking and we’d be pleased to discuss what might need to be done in advance so that we can complete the job properly and in good time. We are available evenings and weekends for office cleaning and other jobs where you cannot spare the room during normal working hours.

How long does carpet cleaning take?

It takes approximately 30 minutes to clean a carpeted area 5 metres square, depending on how dirty it is.

How long will it take for my carpet to dry after hot water extraction cleaning?

We recommend allowing two to three hours’ drying time depending on the thickness of the pile, but it depends on the time of year, as well as the temperature, humidity and ventilation in the room.

We are always careful to not get the carpet too wet during cleaning. Our machine has two powerful vacuum motors to remove as much moisture and chemical residue from the carpet as possible. We have carefully selected the detergents we use because they are not only the most effective but also the most likely to dry without leaving a trace – so long as they are allowed to evaporate properly. We recommend that neither children nor pets are allowed to enter the room until the carpet feels completely dry to the touch. We can give you advice on drying time that is tailored to your particular property on the day.

Will the carpet be fragranced after the clean?

Yes, there will be a light fragrance even once completely dry, which will fade in about 48 hours.

Are the treatments you use safe for people with allergies?

We cannot guarantee that the detergents we prefer to use (chosen because they are the most effective and long-lasting) will not cause an allergic reaction. However we can instead use a detergent (called Pure Clean) that contains no fragrance, soaps, optical brightener (bleach), enzymes or solvents (all of which are known to cause allergic reactions in sensitive people) and which is suitable for both spot cleaning to remove stubborn stains and standard extraction cleaning.

It’s worth bearing in mind that allergic reactions can sometimes be caused by contaminants released from the carpet during cleaning, rather than the detergents used. We always advise anyone to not enter a recently cleaned room until the carpet is properly dry, and that all rooms are well-ventilated during the drying process.

If in doubt, talk to us. We’ve been cleaning carpets (and supplying other businesses with detergents) for over two decades and can give expert advice.

What carpet cleaning equipment do you use?

Our main carpet machine is an Ashbys ‘Enforcer’ with the following features / upgrades:

  • internal heater to keep cleaning solution temperature steady (up to 60 degrees Celsius);
  • two (independent) vacuum motors for double suction on fabrics that can take it, and normal strength for delicate or older fibres and fabrics;
  • 100 foot / 30 metre hose (sometimes we can leave the machine outside the property, for less noise and disruption);
  • Ashby’s ‘Power Wand’ for more effective and faster deep cleaning (more on this just below).
Many of our competitors will use a normal carpet cleaning wand; this merely glides across the surface of the carpet and doesn’t provide any agitation. Agitation is a very important part of the cleaning process because it releases far more dirt and also helps restore the look of the carpet by lifting the pile. While we do have a standard wand (used in tight spots or where access is severely restricted), wherever we have the choice we’ll use the Power Wand.

The Power Wand has its own power supply and does three key things in one pass:

  1. forces cleaning solution into the carpet via three jets about 4 inches apart at 250-400 PSI (variable, according to carpet type, fabric and age);
  2. agitates the carpet fibres with a nylon brush rotating at high speed (no need for scrubbing); and
  3. sucks the released dirt and solution back into the machine’s 40 litre dirty water tank.

Click here to watch a short two minute video from Ashby’s demonstrating the Power Wand in action.

If we don’t have the option to use the Power Wand, we’ll use three other bits of equipment:

  1. A regular wand to apply the detergent;
  2. A Makita battery-powered hand-held ‘drill gun’ to agitate the fibres;
  3. A heavy duty small-headed attachment for extraction (this still connects to the Ashby’s Enforcer, giving us full suction power).

For carpeted areas that have been flooded and are badly waterlogged we will first use a V-TUF VT9000 to remove as much dirty water as possible before we begin extraction cleaning.

If you want to know about the different methods we use, you can read about them in detail here.

What can I do to care for my carpet myself?

To help maintain your carpet and prolong its life, be sure to vacuum regularly between professonial cleaning: this not only helps prevent dirt and hair becoming engrained in the carpet fibres, but also lifts the carpet pile.

Our Work

This community centre carpet had dark streaks from the residue left by incomplete/ineffective previous cleaning, and looked a bit grey/brown overall.
These photos clearly demonstrate the power of professional equipment and effective detergents: an extremely dirty church carpet quickly looks good as new.
