There are hardly any upholstery materials that won’t be weakened by steam from water heated to 100 degrees Celsius. Dry shampoos do a good job (we use them ourselves sometimes) but the trade-off for a quick clean is a residue that attracts (rather than repels) dust. Hot water extraction takes longer but it also lasts longer.
